Buni Approved N120m For Three Men's Medical Bills While Yobe Clinics Stay Empty
about 2 months ago
Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State approved ₦120 million in public funds as medical allowances for former Governor Ibrahim Gaidam and two former deputy governors, Aliyu Saleh Bagare and Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu. The letter, dated February 21, 2026, was signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Mallam Wali, and obtained by SaharaReporters. Senator Ibrahim Gaidam alone got ₦60 million, while Bagare and Aliyu received ₦30 million each.
The letter, referenced GO/S/POL/76/VI and titled Approval for the Release of Funds, stated that Buni approved the release of the sum of N120,000,000.00 (One Hundred and Twenty Million Naira) only to the Secretary to the State Government being medical allowances of the former Governor and 2 former Deputy Governors. A government source, speaking anonymously, alleged that Buni has always approved this kind of money for the people he considers his political godfathers. The same government also approved ₦1.5 billion for the International Cargo Airport in Damaturu, with a project schedule worth about ₦20 billion.
Meanwhile, ordinary residents of Yobe are still struggling to access basic healthcare. The question is simple: if three former officials can receive ₦120 million for medical allowances, how much has been budgeted for the hospitals and clinics that serve the millions of people in the state? Governor Buni needs to explain this to the people of Yobe.
