My daughter called me a food hoarder because I keep rice under my bed
about 2 months ago
My 15 year old daughter walked into my room last week, saw the two bags of rice I keep under my bed and she just stopped. She said mum, this is not normal. I asked her what is not normal about rice. She said nobody keeps rice under their bed in London.
I told her to sit down. I said when I was coming in 2008, my first flat in Woolwich had one small freezer that belonged to three of us. So we learned to buy in bulk when the price is good. That is not hoarding, that is wisdom. She said mum, that was 18 years ago. I said yes, and has rice ever finished in this house? She had no answer.
Now the girl is telling her friends at school that her mum is a food hoarder. Her friend came to visit and asked to see the rice. I opened the wardrobe, showed her the garri, the beans, the palm oil. The girl looked at me like I was a museum. My dear, one day when they grow up and the price of one bag of rice is what used to buy a car, they will remember Mama Bose. Abi how do you people do it in your own house?
