Joe Igbokwe Says He Is Worried About Peter Obi And Atiku, But Read His Reason Well
about 2 months ago
Joe Igbokwe, the APC chieftain, came out on his Facebook page yesterday to say he is worried about Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar ahead of 2027, and I had to read the post twice to understand what the man was actually saying. He wrote that he is worried about those challenging President Bola Tinubu because they are underrating his capacity, the grace of God following him and the unlimited followers. That is not worry for the opposition, that is a warning shot dressed as concern.
The man went further and said if all of Tinubu's supporters move to vote that day, by 12 noon it will be over. He called the President an enigma and added the line, if you know, you know. Now, anybody who has followed Igbokwe since 2022 knows this is the same man who was shouting that Peter Obi would be defeated, and he is still singing the same song. But here is my problem with this whole thing. We have not even entered 2027 properly and the conversation has already become about who owns the crowd, not who has the plan. In Ibadan here, when I was still in service, we used to say the man who counts his supporters before the market opens often forgets to buy anything.
What Igbokwe is doing is simple politics, and I will not pretend it is more than that. The opposition has its own problems, Peter Obi and Atiku have not even settled how they are running, and the APC knows this. My own take is that this election will not be decided by 12 noon or by Facebook posts. It will be decided by whether the ordinary man in Kano, in Onitsha, in Yenagoa can buy rice and fuel at a price that does not finish his salary. So let us argue this one well. Is Igbokwe genuinely worried, or is he just warming up the crowd for a fight that has not even started?
