Soludo Is Paying Peter Obi's Loan, And Nobody Wants To Talk About It

Anambra Commissioner for Finance Izuchukwu Okafor said yesterday that the Soludo government is still repaying loans taken by Peter Obi and Willie Obiano, and I am sitting here in Kano asking myself why this is not the headline everywhere.

Okafor said it plainly on the Ndi Anambra podcast: "It's on record that this administration has not borrowed a kobo from any commercial bank since the inception of this administration." But he also said FAAC deductions are still going out every month to service those old loans from Obi and Obiano. So the money wey suppose enter Anambra for roads, for water, for school, some of it is going to bank somewhere.

We like to praise Peter Obi for saving money when he was governor. Fine. But a loan is a loan. If the state is still paying it in 2026, then somebody borrowed it and somebody must answer. Hausa man talk say, ranka ya fi kudi, borrowing is worse than spending your own money. Let us argue this: if Obi left savings, why is Anambra still paying debt from his time?
