Reno Omokri Says N3,000 A Day Is Enough To Live On. Let Me Do The Maths For Him.

I saw the Reno Omokri quote this morning while I was queuing for fuel at the NNPC station in Wuse. He said the average Nigerian can live on N3,000 daily. Wallahi I read it twice because I thought maybe I was tired.

Let me weigh this carefully. From where I sit in Abuja, N3,000 covers my daughter's school bus one way. That is it. Not food. Not transport to work. Just the bus. So when somebody tells me that figure is enough for a whole human being to exist on, I have to ask which Nigeria he is describing, because it is not the one I wake up in.

I manage people for a living, so I know what a junior staff salary looks like after deductions. I have sat across from grown men doing the maths on their faces before they even open their mouth to ask for an advance. That is the reality. The policy says one thing, the market says another. So who exactly is living on N3,000 a day and smiling about it?
