Wike Fires Back At Uzodinma Over 2027 Governorship Politics

Nyesom Wike has responded to Hope Uzodinma and the APC governors after they distanced themselves from his Rainbow Coalition, and his reply is as direct as it gets. In a statement released by his spokesperson Lere Olayinka, Wike said Nigeria's politics has moved beyond becoming governor from the fourth position. That line alone tells you everything about how he views the Imo governor's political standing.

Wike challenged Uzodinma directly, asking how APC won two senate seats in Imo in 2023 on the same day the party scored less than 15 percent in the presidential election. He asked the same question about Ebonyi, Abia and Enugu, where APC won National Assembly seats despite the President not getting up to ten percent of the votes. His point is simple: if voters were not confused in 2023, they will not be confused in 2027. He also made it clear that he never promised anyone the PDP would not field candidates for governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly elections.

Wike wrote, "What I said and stand for is that I will mobilise support for the re-election of the President. I never promised anyone that the PDP will not field candidates to contest governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly elections." He insisted the Rainbow Coalition has nothing to do with the APC, calling it his own way of mobilising support across parties for President Tinubu's second term.

So the question is this: is Wike genuinely fighting for Tinubu's re-election, or is he quietly building his own political structure while using the President's name as cover? Let us argue this honestly.
