Peter Obi Says He Will Stop Campaigning If Anyone Proves He Left Debt
about 2 months ago
Peter Obi has challenged the Anambra State government to come forward with proof that his administration left unpaid debts, salaries, pensions or contractor liabilities, and he added a line that has everyone talking: "If anybody can establish anything to the contrary, I will stop campaigning."
The Anambra government had claimed his tenure left behind inherited debts including a N2 billion ecological loan. Obi fired back that his administration cleared historical gratuities and arrears worth more than N35 billion, that no salaries or pensions were outstanding when he handed over, and that the N2 billion ecological fund was released about three months before he left for the Oko/Umuchiana erosion crisis, which he refused to touch because it was tied to that specific project. He also said the fund was separate from more than N75 billion in savings he claims his government left behind.
This is the kind of political fight where somebody is lying and both sides know it. Obi is campaigning for 2027 as the NDC candidate, so every governor he once governed over has a reason to drag his record. But the man has put his entire campaign on the line with one sentence, and if Anambra truly has documents, they should bring them out today instead of trading statements on social media. Be honest, does anyone actually believe a state government will ever release those papers if they exist?
