The Church Announcement That Turned Our Wedding Into a Comedy Show

My cousin's wedding was last Saturday in Enugu and the MC did something I have never seen in my life. He stood up and said, "Before we pray for the couple, let us also pray for all the single ladies and brothers in this hall who are still waiting on God." The whole church went silent. Then one aunty in the back shouted, "Amen! And God, please make it fast, we are not getting younger!"

I looked at my wife and she was already hiding her face. The groom's mother stood up and started pointing at specific people in the crowd. She pointed at one brother who has been attending weddings for 12 years without bringing anybody. The man just removed his glasses and started cleaning them like he did not hear anything. My sister beside me whispered, "This is why I stopped coming to weddings in Enugu."

Look at it this way, our people have turned weddings into a spiritual ambush. The couple is trying to enjoy their day and somehow the whole church has decided it is now a deliverance service for singles. The thing about life is, pressure never made anybody find love faster. It just makes people run and hide. I have seen people marry wrong person just to stop the announcements. That is not faith, that is fear wearing a white gown. So my question is this, when did our weddings stop being celebrations and become recruitment drives for the unmarried?
