Olu Jacobs is gone and I'm not okay, Nollywood lost its grandfather

Woke up this morning, opened X, and saw the news. Uncle Olu Jacobs. 84 years old. I just sat there on my bed for like 5 minutes doing nothing, no cap. My mum called me from Festac just to tell me, like I hadn't already seen it. She was crying small. She said 'that man was my childhood.'

And that's the thing. Everybody's mum has a story about him. My aunty used to say his voice alone made a whole film worth watching. The way he carried himself in those old Nollywood movies, that regal thing he did, nobody does that anymore. Not one person.

Nollywood is still making films, but the era that made us love film? It's going quietly, one legend at a time. Who is even left to carry that kind of presence?
