Adebayo Says Your Suffering Is Not On Tinubu's Mind, And I Think He Has A Point
about 2 months ago
Prince Adewole Adebayo, the SDP presidential candidate, said on Wednesday in Abuja that the welfare of Nigerians is the last thing on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's mind, and honestly, I have been turning that sentence over in my head since I saw it.
Look at the man's exact words. He said, "Why it is difficult to kill poverty and insecurity, blackouts, joblessness and all of that is that the welfare of the people is the last thing on the mind of the government." He even went further to say that as far as those in government are concerned, our existence in this country is a nuisance to them, that they just want to collect money from the oil, take it abroad and enjoy themselves. And then the part that hit me: "Maybe now that we have a democratic system of government, maybe once in four years, they will consider us useful."
I am a history teacher in Ibadan, and I have read the manifestos of every government since 1960. The language changes, the faces change, but the pattern stays the same. Adebayo is one of 17 candidates cleared by INEC for the January 16, 2027 election, and he is asking young people to come together. So let me ask una one straight question. If our welfare has never been the priority of any government since independence, why do we still queue every four years hoping the next man will suddenly care? Am I the only one that thinks this cycle is the real problem?
