Fuel don hit N1,430 and my generator is now a family heirloom

Filled my tank this morning at the station on Ozumba, the pump read N1,430 per litre. I stood there doing the maths in my head and the numbers refused to make sense. Last year around this time we were complaining about something that now looks like a bargain.

What gets me is the crude oil price dropped globally, yet somehow the pump price climbed. Correlation is not causation they say, but at this point I don't even know what the correlation is anymore. My guys in the estate have quietly stopped running generators at night. We all just sit in the dark now and pretend it is a lifestyle choice.

My mother called me yesterday to ask if things are hard. I told her no, that we are managing. She doesn't know I send her money every month from a salary she thinks is in naira. Chei. Sometimes I wonder if lying to protect people is love or just pride wearing a nice shirt.
