Two years ago, I take loan from our church cooperative. ₦180,000. I wan use am stock my shop well well for Christmas. Sister Amaka, my best friend for church, she co-sign for me. We been dey fellowship together for 8 years. She even carry my baby Tayo when he dey sick.

Then armed robbers enter my shop one night. Dem carry everything. I cry for three days. When loan time reach, I no fit pay. I beg the cooperative for small time.

Next thing, I hear say Amaka dey tell people say I don run away with church money. Say I use the money buy land for village. Oluwa o! Me wey no get even ₦5,000 for my account that week.

The whole church turn their back on me. Even Mama Nkechi wey I give free maggi for 3 years. Nobody greet me. My husband ask me wetin I do. I tell am nothing, I just cry.

One Sunday, they call me for front. I stand there. I open my bag. I bring out every receipt. Every single one. The loan paper. The police report from the robbery. My cooperative passbook wey show say I don pay back ₦40,000 small small from my market sales.

I look Amaka for eye. I ask her one question: 'Amaka, when you co-sign, you no know say if I die, you go pay? So why you dey lie say I run?'

She no answer. She just look ground.

The church beg me. But the damage don happen. I no fit trust her again. Not with money. Not with anything.

We still dey greet. But that friendship die that Sunday. And I learn something wey e pain me: no matter how long you know person, when money enter, some people go show you their real face. God forgive me, but I no fit forget.
