Peter Obi Spent N5.4 Trillion in Anambra? Let Us Argue This One
about 1 month ago
Dele Alake, spokesperson for President Bola Tinubu's campaign council, has come out swinging at Peter Obi, saying his Anambra record was poor and that the whole clean politician image was a well-packaged lie. The Anambra State Government allegedly put the figure at about USD 4.05 billion, that is roughly N5.4 trillion at today's rate, spent over Obi's eight years, plus USD 123.77 million in external loans.
Alake did not hold back. He said, "The facade of falsehood built around Peter Obi, the NDC presidential candidate, has now been torn to shreds, with Obi's persona deconstructed after disclosures by the Anambra State Government, which responded to Obi's challenge to verify his record." The state also said that when Obi left office on March 17, 2014, there were eight different external borrowings for malaria, erosion control, education and healthcare, and that Soludo's government has been servicing that debt till today.
Now here is where I want us to argue. Every four years, when election season reaches this stage, the same script plays out. One side digs up an old record, the other side calls it a witch-hunt, and we the voters are left holding two versions of the same history. If the loan papers are there, show us the papers. If the spending breakdown exists, publish it. Ibadan to Awka, we are tired of hearing numbers without receipts.
Be honest, is this a genuine reckoning with Peter Obi's Anambra record, or is it just 2027 politics warming up early?
