The day I found out my sister Nkechi used my shop money for her wedding
about 1 month ago
Two years ago, my younger sister Nkechi came to me crying. She said her wedding was in three months and her fiancé's people were demanding a big ceremony. She had nothing. Our mother died when Nkechi was small, I raised her like my own pikin.
I gave her the key to my shop. I said take what you need from the savings, just return it after the wedding. I trusted her with everything.
The wedding was fine. Aso ebi, canopy, live band. I was there, dancing for my sister. Two weeks later I went to the bank to restock. The account was empty. Everything gone.
I called her. She started crying on the phone. She said she used it for the wedding because her husband's family was pressuring her. She said she would pay back small small.
That was two years ago. She has not paid one naira. Now we don't talk. My shop almost closed. I had to borrow from my cooperative to survive.
What pained me is not the money. It's that I raised her. I carried her on my back when she was small. And she looked me in the eye and did this.
God knows I have forgiven her. But the trust? That one is gone. Family no mean say dem no go wound you.
