Nigerians Don't Actually Have a Favourite Food, We Just Say Jollof to Sound Patriotic

Jollof rice is not our favourite food. It's just the one we agree to pretend about so we can argue with Ghanaians on Twitter. Nobody wakes up on a Sunday and says ah, jollof. We wake up and say where is the stew.

Ask any Nigerian what they would eat for the rest of their life and watch them lie. They'll say jollof. Then their eyes will drift to the egusi in the pot. Or the pepper soup. Or that smoky party rice from a wedding that somehow tastes better than any restaurant version. See ehn, the real Nigerian food hierarchy is stew first, swallow second, jollof somewhere in the middle looking for attention.

I said what I said. Jollof is our national PR stunt. The actual food of the people is whatever is in the pot when the generator comes on and the rice has finished.

"Jollof is our brand. Stew is our life."

So be honest, if nobody was watching and no Ghanaian was online, what is really on your plate?
