The day I nearly lost my laptop to a bike man in traffic and I still can't explain how

Third Mainland Bridge, 7:42pm, I'm in one of those rickety buses with my laptop bag on my lap because I don't trust anybody. Driver is doing his own gospel playlist, conductor is hanging outside the door shouting 'Lekki! Lekki!'. Normal Monday.
Next thing, traffic stops, and a bike man pulls up beside my window. He's not selling anything. He's just looking at me. Looking at the bag. I shift am under my leg, he smiles small and moves on. My chest was doing gbedu for the rest of that ride.
Got home, checked my bag, everything dey. But I sat on the floor for like 10 minutes just breathing. My roommate asked what happened, I said nothing. Because what would I even say? That a stranger looked at me and I saw my whole hustle flash before my eyes? Lagos will humble you in silence.
Since that day I no longer sit by the window. But sometimes I wonder, was he actually going to do something, or was my mind just doing overtime?
