Anyim Says Southeast Can't Win 2027 Without Alliance, And He's Right

Anyim Pius Anyim, former Senate President, has come out to say that no person from the Southeast will become President of Nigeria without an alliance with other regions. He said this on Arise News and used it to explain why he left the PDP for the APC, throwing his weight behind President Bola Tinubu's second term.

His exact words were, "No person from the Southeast would make it in isolation. We must have an alliance with other regions in order to make it. So, there is no amount of effort from each and every one of us that will make it possible for us to become president if we do not have an alliance with other regions." He also said the presidency should rotate: after Tinubu's second term, it goes to the North, and then after eight years, it comes back to the Southeast. So he is telling the Southeast to wait until 2035 or thereabouts.

Now, I have seen people calling him a sellout, especially with Peter Obi of the NDC still very much in the race. But let us be honest with ourselves. Anyim is not saying anything new. He is just saying it plainly. The Southeast cannot win a presidential election on its own. That is arithmetic, not betrayal. The question is whether waiting another 12 years is a strategy or a sentence. Because the same people who are telling us to wait are the same people who will still be in the room when that time comes. Am I the only one that thinks this is less about zoning and more about who gets to eat first?
