The aso-ebi at my cousin's wedding was the exact shade of the dress I wore to my own engagement party. That man was there. As the groom.

Three years ago my cousin Bisi was getting married. Traditional wedding, Ikorodu side. I was one of the aso-ebi coordinators so I was running around like a headless chicken the whole morning.

Then I walked into the compound and saw the groom's family sitting under the canopy. And my legs just... stopped.

Because the man sitting there in the agbada, shaking hands with everybody, laughing, was Tunde. The same Tunde who told me in 2021 that he was going to marry me. The same Tunde who collected ₦180,000 from me for 'our future' and then changed his number. The same Tunde I cried for in my room in Lekki for two months straight.

He was Bisi's fiancΓ©. Nobody knew. Not Bisi. Not my aunty. Not one single person.

I stood there holding a tray of jollof rice and I swear my hands were shaking. The whole wedding was going on around me and I was just... calculating.

I had every receipt. Every WhatsApp message. The voice notes. All of it saved in a folder I never deleted because I'm petty like that.

I looked at Bisi. She was glowing. She was happy. And I had to decide in that moment whether to be right or to be kind.

I didn't say anything that day. I danced. I smiled for the photos. I helped her fix her gele. And then I went home and cried in the shower like a mad person.

Two weeks later I sent her everything. Anonymously. Through a new email.

She called me at 1am screaming. Not at me. At him. She had suspected something and my email confirmed it.

They didn't marry. She returned the bride price. My aunty didn't speak to me for six months because somehow they found out it was me.

But Bisi is fine now. She's in Canada. She sends me voice notes every week. Last month she said, 'Temi, you saved my life and I didn't even know it.'

Sometimes doing the right thing costs you the family you grew up with. But God no dey sleep. He was just waiting for the right time to show me who Tunde really was.

I still have that folder. I'm not deleting it. Just in case.
