4000 Influencers For Propaganda, But Nobody To Explain How Mary Habila Died On Umahi's Estate

Prof Chidi Odinkalu has asked the Federal Government a question that David Umahi cannot answer with a budget line. The former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, writing on his X account today, said the 4,000 social media influencers Umahi wants to hire would be better deployed explaining how Mary Habila died.

Mary Habila was a medical professional. She died on June 27, 2026, after she was reportedly brought to the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital, Uburu, in Ebonyi State, where she was pronounced dead. She had reportedly accompanied the Works Minister to his residence in Uburu. Umahi requested a forensic autopsy. The family opposed the post-mortem and asked for her remains for burial.

Odinkalu wrote: "So, @realdaveumahi needs an army of 4,000 influencers to showcase the achievements of @OfficialAPCNg & @officialABAT? He may do better deploying the influencers to explain how the life of a promising young woman mysteriously ended on his private estate." Umahi announced the influencer plan on Tuesday in Abuja while receiving a NANS report on federal road projects in Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna and Sokoto. His words: "We have to fight this social media war. We have to launch 4,000 social media influencers to tell our stories."

So the government has money to pay 4,000 people to talk, but a dead young woman on a minister's private estate remains a matter of speculation. A promising medical professional is gone, and the loudest noise in the room is about road projects and 2027. Somewhere in Uburu, a family is still waiting for answers, and Abuja is budgeting for noise.

If 4,000 influencers can explain achievements, can one of them explain what happened to Mary Habila?
