I Led the Choir for Nine Years While Sleeping With Three of the Sisters. The Night Mama Caught Us, I Still Wore My Robe.

I was 34, choir director at a branch in Ikeja, and by every measure the church held me up as an example. I had the voice, I had the anointing, I could make a whole congregation cry with one chorus. And I was sleeping with three women in my own choir. It started small. A sister whose husband traveled every month, then a young girl who had just finished secondary school, then the one who played keyboard. Each one thought she was the only one. I told each of them God had shown me she was my destiny. Omo, I used scripture like a weapon. I would quote Songs of Solomon and watch them melt. This went on for almost four years. Sunday I would mount the pulpit and preach purity, Wednesday I would be in a hotel in Ogba. I paid for everything with choir welfare money. Nobody checked the books because I was the one keeping them. The night it broke, Mama Nkechi, the oldest soprano, came back to the church to pick her Bible she forgot. She met me and the keyboardist inside the vestry. I was still in my white robe. She did not shout. She just looked at me, picked her Bible, and walked out. By the following Sunday, the whole branch knew. The pastor called me to his office and asked me one question: how many? I could not answer. I was suspended, not sacked. They said it was to protect the church's name. Three months later I relocated to Abuja and started attending a small assembly where nobody knows me. I sit at the back now. I have not touched a microphone since. What I learned is this: the anointing does not cover secret sin, it only amplifies the fall. And the people you are deceiving are not the congregation. It is you.
