A whole law professor, jail term confirmed. And we still dey beg lecturers for marks
about 1 month ago
Court of Appeal just upheld the two-year jail term for Professor Cyril Ndifon, the former Dean of Law at Unical. The man was a dean. A whole dean of a faculty. And the case was about him harassing female students, the same girls who came to that campus to learn.
Let me tell you why this one pain me. In UNN here, we know the pattern. A lecturer holds your result like ransom. You go to his office to beg for a mark you earned, and the way he looks at the girls in that queue, you just know something is wrong. But nobody talks. Because who will believe a 300L student over a man with a PhD and a title?
The system finally caught one. One. Out of how many still walking free and marking scripts every semester. I'm happy for the girls who spoke up, I swear. But it took years, and a whole appeal, just to keep one man where he belongs. The ones who reported and got nothing, what do we tell them?
