Petrol Price Just Revealed As Nigeria Turns Oil Exporter, But Check Who Is Really Paying
about 1 month ago
So the new petrol price is out and Nigeria is now a major exporter of refined petroleum, that is what they are telling us today. The same country that was importing fuel with dirty subsidy money is now selling to other nations. But make we look at the pump price before we clap.
Our elders have a proverb: "A kì í fi ojú àná wo ọmọ tí a bí lónìí." You do not look at today's child with yesterday's eyes. Meaning: the situation has changed, so the reasoning must change. If we are truly exporting, then the price at the filling station in Abeokuta or Kano should reflect that blessing, not punish the okada man who carries your goods.
The question every Nigerian should ask is simple. When a country starts earning dollars from crude and refined products, does the man buying fuel for his generator see any relief? Or does the naira still fall while the price climbs? We have heard this exporter story before. What we have not seen is the price coming down.
