El-Rufai Made Tinubu President, Now Look At His Bail
about 1 month ago
Dele Momodu said something yesterday on Channels Television Morning Brief that many people in this country have been thinking but nobody with a microphone wants to say out loud. He said if not for Nasir El-Rufai, President Bola Tinubu would not be in office today. That is not an insult, that is a statement of political fact that the beneficiaries of that arrangement have chosen to bury under convenient amnesia.
Momodu went further, and this is where it gets painful. He said the bail conditions given to El-Rufai are so horrendous that even his enemies would wonder why he has to go through such a painful experience at the hands of a government that he helped to midwife. Read that again slowly. The man who helped build the house is now standing outside the gate in the rain, and the people inside are pretending they do not know him.
This is the same script we have watched since 1999. Every political alliance in this country ends the same way, with one side holding the key and the other side holding the receipt. I am not here to defend El-Rufai, he is a grown man who knew exactly what game he was playing and who he was playing it with. But if we cannot even admit that loyalty in Nigerian politics is a one-way street, then we will keep producing the same story with different names every four years. Be honest, is there anybody in this country who is genuinely shocked by how this is ending?
