The Sunday I Found Something in the Offering Box That Broke Me
about 1 month ago
Counting offering after second service, I saw it. Folded naira notes, not in the envelope, just sitting under the tray like somebody forgot. But I knew. I had seen that same fold before, three weeks straight, always after Deacon Nnamdi handled the box.
This was the man who paid my seminary fees when my father died. The man who laid hands on me the day I was ordained. I sat in that empty church with the money in my hand and I could not pray. Chineke. Seven years I carried that secret, and the day I finally told the elders, I lost friends I thought were for life.
What I learned is this: the truth does not always set you free. Sometimes it just sets you alone. But I would rather stand alone with a clean heart than stand in a crowd with a dirty one. The young people in my youth group, they do not know this story. They just know I am the pastor who does not pretend. That is enough for me.
