Peter Obi says he never borrowed one kobo as Anambra gov, Soludo side of the story go shock you
about 1 month ago
Peter Obi came out yesterday on Arise Television Prime Time and said flatly that in his eight years as Anambra governor, he never walked into one bank to borrow money or issue bonds for the state. The man didn't even blink. He said on the day he left office, no salary, no gratuity, no pension that was due was owing, and not one contractor or supplier who did the job and got verified was left unpaid.
But hold on. Governor Chukwuma Soludo has been saying the opposite, that Obi left debts and unpaid gratuities behind in Awka. Two men, same state, two completely different ledgers. One of them is lying, or one of them is counting something the other one is not counting. And this is not small matter, because Anambra workers who retired under Obi are the ones carrying the load of this argument in their old age.
Here is my own take. Nigerian governors borrow like it is a competition, so a man claiming he borrowed nothing for eight years should be investigated, not just applauded. Either Obi is the only clean governor this country has produced, or there is a definition of borrowing we are not being told. Let's argue this: if truly he left no debt and no gratuity, why is Soludo, a professor of economics, standing on this matter till today?
