The Landlord's Daughter Saved Me From Myself

C

Third time this year I had to move. Not because of rent, not because of anything dramatic. Just life doing life things. My former place in Ajah, the landlord's daughter, Funmi, she was the one who found me the new spot in Lekki Phase 1. Small world.

But here's the thing. Funmi is a nurse. And for like two months before I moved, she kept telling me my blood pressure was high. She'd see me come back from shoots looking stressed, and she'd just say 'Chi-Chi, you need to rest.' I'd laugh it off. Twenty-three year old with BP? Abeg.

Then one night I woke up with my chest tight and my head pounding. Went to the hospital. They said my pressure was through the roof. Stress, caffeine, and the fact that I'd been eating Indomie and energy drinks for weeks. Funmi just looked at me and said 'I told you.'

So now I'm in the new place, and I actually sleep. I actually cook. The documentary is still sitting on that hard drive though. But at least my heart is not racing for no reason. Who knew rest was part of the hustle? Not me. Not until my body forced the lesson.
