The day I found out my daughter's school fees were paid by a stranger I insulted
about 1 month ago
That morning I was at my stall in Agege Market, counting coins for Funke's WAEC registration. ₦18,500 I needed. I had ₦9,200. Just like that.
Two weeks before, a woman came to my shop. Fine wrapper, big bag. She said she wanted to buy provisions for her mother's burial. I priced everything and she said I was cheating her. She called me wicked, said market women are all thieves. I shouted back. Told her to leave my shop. She left.
That same woman came back three days later. She dropped an envelope on my table and walked away. Inside was ₦10,000. Note said: 'For the girl's exam. God bless your hustle.' I never even asked her name.
I still don't know if she forgave me or if she just had pity. Which one is worse?
