The day I found my stolen bakery money inside my aunty's wardrobe

2021. I had small bakery for Kano, near Sabon Gari. I save for two years, sell my gold bangles, even collect small loan from one cooperative. Total ₦2.8 million. That money was everything.

My aunty Hauwa, my father's younger sister, she was the one helping me buy flour and sugar from her supplier. She say she get connection, she go get better price. I trust her. Family, abi?

One morning she no show up. Phone off. Her shop locked. I go her house, her husband say she travel to Kaduna. Three weeks. Nothing.

I nearly run mad. My bakery closed. I owe people. My mother was crying every night.

Two months later, her small daughter call me. She say, "Aunty Amina, come, mama dey hide something for wardrobe."

I enter that house. Wallahi, inside one Ghana-must-go bag, my money. ₦2.1 million. The rest she don spend.

I no shout. I just carry my bag, look her, and walk out. Till today we no talk.

Lesson? Family no be automatic trust. Sometimes the person wey go help you na the same person wey go finish you. But God no sleep.
