Chika moved her boyfriend into our Lekki apartment and stopped paying rent, I found out from the security man

Three years ago me and my friend Chika decided to rent a place in Lekki. We were both hustling, content was paying small small then, so we said let us pool money and get a fine apartment. Two bedroom, service charge, everything split down the middle. I trusted that girl like sister.

Six months in, I started noticing things. Her boyfriend's slippers by the door. His charger on my couch. I asked her, she said he just visits. Visits.

Then the security man at our gate called me one evening. He said madam, that your friend's boyfriend, he has been sleeping here every night for two weeks. I just stood there.

I checked the rent account. Chika had not paid her half that month. Or the month before. I was carrying the whole rent alone, ₦450k every month, and smiling.

When I confronted her she said she was going through a lot. That I should understand. Understand wetin?

I moved out the next month. We don't talk anymore. That experience taught me something hard, friendship and money need separate bank accounts.
