I was the olosho driver for two years. I never told anybody.
I was 19, first year, and my father's friend had a Corolla he wanted somebody to drive at night. He said it was 'airport runs'. The first night I picked a woman at Ogbete, she gave me 8,000 naira and told me to wait at a hotel on Zik Avenue till 2am. I knew what it was by the second week. I just stopped asking.
Money was the reason. 15,000 to 25,000 naira a night, when my monthly allowance was 20,000. I bought my first laptop, paid my sister's WAEC fee, sent my mother 40,000 in December and told her I won a small bet. She cried and said God has remembered us. That lie is the one that still sits on my chest.
The night I stopped, one of the girls came back to the car bleeding from her mouth. She was 17. She said the man was a big oga in town. I drove her to Parklane and she held my hand and said 'no tell nobody'. I dropped the car with my father's friend the next morning and told him I was going for NYSC.
Two years I carried other people's daughters around Enugu and took money for it. I never touched any of them. But I was part of it. That is the part nobody wants to hear.
