I was 38 when the fire happen. Mile 12 market, 2012. I remember the smell of burning tomatoes and plastic bags. Chai! My three stalls, my two apprentices, everything gone. My husband just die two years before, my last born was in JSS3, school fees due that month. I no get insurance. Nothing.I sat on the wet ground and cry. But market women no dey cry too long. Mama Bola from the next stall, she pull me up and say, "Ngozi, stop. We go rebuild." That same evening, she started calling other traders. Before I know, dem bring garri, beans, even small money. One woman I never even like before, she give me ₦20,000. I swear, I no fit talk.We open small shed the next week. Today, I get three stalls again. But the lesson? Pride no dey put food for table. Sometimes, you need to let people carry you. I no forget. 🙏
