Four Ogun Cops Arrested For Handcuffing Man Over Camouflage Shorts
16 days ago
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested four officers captured in a viral video molesting a young man in Ijagba, Ota, and the reason for the arrest is what should worry every Nigerian: the man was pinned to the ground in handcuffs for allegedly wearing camouflage shorts. Four armed men, a pair of shorts, and a citizen on the floor.
Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni has now directed a thorough and impartial investigation, with the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, stating that disciplinary procedures have been initiated. Residents confronted the officers and forced them to abandon the arrest, which tells you the community had seen enough. Babaseyi added that the Command appreciates the public for bringing the video to its attention.
But let us be clear about what is really on trial here. Not four officers, but a culture where a man can be handcuffed over clothing and only face consequences after a camera starts recording. If this video had never trended, would Ojajuni be talking about accountability today?
