Ifeanyi Christopher Nworie was not a politician. He was not a campaigner. He was a 43-year-old commercial bus driver who had just dropped passengers at Old Park and was heading home when he ran into the chaos near Parklane Hospital in Enugu on Saturday, October 11. He stopped his Toyota bus to see what was happening. A bullet hit him in the chest and he fell near his vehicle, bleeding on the ground.

His elder brother, Engr. Afam Nworie, told SaharaReporters exactly what the family went through. They moved him from Parklane to the Orthopedic Hospital, where doctors confirmed the bullet had passed through his body and damaged his heart and lungs. The family paid ₦4,000,000 for emergency surgery. The doctor called that Saturday night at 10pm to say the surgery was successful. By Sunday night, Ifeanyi was dead. Afam said, "Since the death of my brother on Sunday, nobody from the government circle has spoken any word to my family. Police have not also made any arrest or even contacted our family. That is why we are feeling that there is more to the killing of my brother."

Governor Peter Mbah has said nothing. The Enugu State Police Command has arrested nobody. Only the NDC governorship candidate, Chief Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa, visited the family to condole with them. Afam also reminded us that in 2023, Bar Oyibo Chukwu, former Branch Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, was gruesomely murdered with his personal assistant during the same election circle. So I ask Governor Mbah directly: how many more bus drivers must be shot at point-blank range before Enugu State admits it has a security problem it cannot control? And to the police: if you cannot arrest the person who fired that bullet, then say so publicly and let the family know they should stop waiting.
