Wike Wants Only Tinubu's Name in Rivers, But At What Cost?
Nyesom Wike has declared that the only name he wants to hear in Rivers State is President Bola Tinubu. He said this at a meeting in Port Harcourt with supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and youth leaders. Wike's exact words: "Politics is about figuring out where the state stands to gain the most power. Tinubu is the only thing I wish to hear in this state."
He then linked support for Tinubu's second term to political appointments, infrastructure, and long-term relevance for Rivers. According to him, if Rivers is among the first three states with the most votes, they will get more positions. That is the same transactional politics that has kept this country stagnant. We vote for appointments, not for competence. We vote for relevance, not for results. And the cycle continues.
I understand the game. But when a minister tells a whole state to forget every other name, it sounds less like strategy and more like surrender. Is Rivers a state or a campaign office? Let's argue this. Am I the only one who thinks this is how we keep recycling the same problems?
