Tinubu's Old Video on Lekki Shootings Resurfaces, and Nigerians Are Not Letting It Go

An old video of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu speaking about the victims of the October 20, 2020 Lekki Toll Gate shooting has resurfaced today, the sixth anniversary of that night, and the reaction online is not mild. In the clip, Tinubu said, "Those who suffered the casualties during the gunshot need to answer some questions too. How were they there, and how long were they there? What kind of characters are they?"

That statement, made years ago, is now being read by many Nigerians as an attempt to shift blame onto the very people who were shot. One user, @Shadedylegend, wrote on X, "That's was an open confession! He gave that order." Another, @browntechn, simply asked, "This is who you guys voted for?"

Six years later, nobody has been held accountable for what happened at Lekki. Not one person. So when a video like this comes back around, it is not just about the past. It is about the fact that the questions Tinubu asked that night have never been answered by the government he now leads. Am I the only one who thinks that silence is the loudest part of this whole thing?
