Timi Frank Writes Trump Over Atiku Attack Plot, And I'm Asking: Is This Politics Or Theatre?

Timi Frank, former APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, wrote a letter to Donald Trump yesterday alleging a plot to attack Atiku Abubakar and other opposition leaders before the January 16, 2027 presidential election. Let that sink in. A Nigerian politician is appealing to a foreign president for protection because he does not trust his own country's security architecture.

Frank said, "The protection of political opposition is not a favour that any government grants at its discretion. It is a fundamental obligation of every democratic state." He is correct on paper. But this is the same Timi Frank who was once singing the praises of the same APC government he now says cannot protect its opponents. And the timing is suspicious. The EFCC just reopened a corruption case against Atiku Abubakar following a 14-day ultimatum from former Edo lawmaker Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma. So we have an allegation of an attack plot and a revived corruption probe landing in the same news cycle.

I am not here to defend Atiku Abubakar or any politician. But if we are being honest, this pattern is old. Investigate the opposition when elections approach, then call it a witch-hunt. Or claim there is a plot to eliminate you, then use it to gather sympathy. Both sides are playing the same game. The question is whether we are watching a genuine threat to democracy or two old political machines rehearsing the same script. Let us argue this.
