Amnesty International Exposes Police Killings Six Years After EndSARS
13 days ago
Amnesty International has released a damning report accusing Nigerian police of still killing and torturing citizens with impunity, six years after the #EndSARS protests. The report, released yesterday, names 22-year-old University of Port Harcourt graduate Anthony Enruchi Obodo, shot dead by police on August 27, 2026, and abandoned in a pool of blood by the roadside.
Another victim, 28-year-old Mene Ogidi, was restrained on the ground and shot twice at close range by a police officer in Effurun, Delta State, on April 26, 2026. Amnesty International also cited Bolanle Raheem, the pregnant woman killed at Ajah Underbridge on Christmas Day 2022, and Onyeka Ibe, shot dead in Delta State in April 2023 over a N100 bribe.
The organisation said, "This lack of accountability breeds and perpetuates impunity, creating an environment where Nigerian police believe they have carte blanche to carry out atrocities." Six years after #EndSARS, the question remains: who will answer for Anthony Enruchi Obodo and Mene Ogidi?
