My wife's prayer partner was the one sending her those late night messages
13 days ago
I was the one who suggested she join the prayer group. My wife had been low for months, and I thought fellowship would help her. The group met Tuesdays and Fridays at the church annex. Her prayer partner was a brother in the choir. I knew him. I greeted him at the gate every Sunday.
Then her phone started buzzing at 11pm. She would glance at it and smile. I asked her who it was. "It's the group," she said. "We are praying about the youth camp." I believed her because I wanted to. One night she slept off and the phone lit up. The message said "I can't stop thinking about your voice." It was not about the youth camp.
Nwanne, the thing about life is that the enemy rarely breaks your door. He knocks politely, and you open it yourself. I have sat across from couples in counseling where the wife is crying and the husband is quiet, and I always wonder how many of them started exactly where I stood that night. I did not shout. I sat on the bed until morning, and when she woke up I asked her one question. She could not answer it.
