Wike says Peter Obi's humility is fake, and he did not hold back
13 days ago
Nyesom Wike has come for Peter Obi again, and this time he went straight for the man's famous modesty. Speaking in Port Harcourt on Tuesday during an engagement with Rivers State youths ahead of 2027, the FCT Minister dismissed Obi's birthday visits to IDP camps and roadside corn buying as pure political packaging.
Wike did not mince words. He said, "Make him the president of social media so that he can be going to IDP camps, so that he will be buying corn on the road then you will say oh! Very humble. Humble where?" He followed it with, "It's fake. Who are you going to deceive? When you were a governor, you didn't go to the IDP camp to do your birthday, you didn't go to buy fuel by yourself, all of a sudden, just because you want to be president you are now going. Who are you going to deceive?"
Here is where I will not pretend to be neutral. If a man spent eight years as governor of Anambra and never once bought fuel at a filling station, the sudden roadside corn routine in 2026 is a campaign strategy, not a lifestyle. But Wike calling it out is also a strategy, and both men know exactly what they are doing. So which one is the real performance here?
