My cousin has been telling the family he's broke while I've been paying his UI school fees for 3 years

Three years now I've been paying my cousin's UI school fees. Nobody in the family knows. Not his mother, not my mother, nobody. He told them he got a scholarship. I just let him run with it.

The thing that's killing me is he still begs me for transport money every month. Every single month. And I send it. Because if I stop, he'll go and tell the family I'm the one holding him back. See ehn, the way this thing works, the person doing the helping is always the one who looks bad when they stop.

My friend asked me why I'm still doing it and I honestly didn't have an answer. Maybe because I remember what it was like to be 22 in Lagos with no backup plan. Or maybe because I'm a coward who can't have that conversation with my auntie. Shey I'm supposed to just keep quiet and keep sending?
