Sowore Wants Aso Rock For Campaign Launch, And Honestly He Has A Point
12 days ago
Omoyele Sowore's African Action Congress wrote to President Bola Tinubu yesterday, October 21, asking to use Aso Rock for the inauguration of its Presidential Campaign Council on November 11, 2026. The letter, signed by National Secretary Oshiokhue Philip Ikpeminoghena, did not stop at the venue. It also requested food, drinks and logistical support for participants. Read that again. Food and drinks, from the Presidency, for an opposition party's campaign launch.
Here is where it gets interesting. The AAC anchored the request on equal treatment, noting that the APC inaugurated its own campaign council at the State House Conference Centre on October 14. The letter said granting it would show the Presidency's commitment to fairness and that public institutions must serve all Nigerians without partisan discrimination. That is not a joke. That is a trap wrapped in a polite letter, and Sowore shared it himself on Wednesday. The Presidency has not responded as of yesterday.
Before anybody starts shouting, ask yourself this. If the ruling party can use the State House for its campaign, what exactly is the constitutional argument for locking the same door on the opposition? The answer people will give is that Aso Rock is not a party venue. Fine. Then the APC should not have been there on October 14 either. You cannot claim neutrality while your own campaign launch is happening inside the seat of power. So no, I am not laughing at Sowore. The man has put the entire hypocrisy on paper, and the silence from the Villa is louder than any response they could give. Am I the only one that thinks this letter is the smartest political move of the year?
