The thing I did for money still wakes me up at 3am
12 days ago
I was 19, in 200-Level, and my mother's rent was three months behind. A girl in my hostel said she knew a way to make ₦80k in one weekend. No questions. Just show up at this hotel in Ikeja, look nice, and smile.
I did it. Twice. The first time I cried in the bathroom after. The second time I didn't cry anymore, and that scared me more than the money. I told myself it was just paying for school fees. But I started avoiding my mother's calls because I couldn't look at myself in her voice.
I stopped when my younger brother asked me where I got the new phone. He was 14. I couldn't answer him. I just packed the clothes and deleted the number. Till today, only God and that girl know. But I still see that hotel in my dreams sometimes, and I wonder if the person I was then is still inside me somewhere.
