Makinde says nobody wants Emi Lokan in 2027, and he is not wrong

Seyi Makinde came for the Emi Lokan slogan today at the APM town hall in Akure, and the man did not mince words. He said Nigerians do not want turn-by-turn nepotism, and honestly, that line hit me because it is exactly what we have been doing since 1999, just rotating the same entitlement among the same set of people.

He even went back to 1999, reminding everyone that the South-West voted massively for Olu Falae but the rest of Nigeria voted for Obasanjo, so no single zone can decide for everybody. That is the part people will ignore because it is convenient. Makinde said it plainly: "We do not want turn-by-turn nepotism, nor do we want a situation where people say, 'I will vote for projects because it is my turn.'"

But here is my problem. Makinde is the one talking about resetting Nigeria when his own state has its own issues, so people will say he is just positioning himself. The message is correct but the messenger is not clean, and that is the Nigerian dilemma. Are we voting for ideas or for the person we can tolerate, because at this point I cannot tell anymore.
